Borders of Ethiopia are open with some limitations.

Passengers must have a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test taken at most 120 hours before arrival. 

This doesn’t apply to:

  • children under 10 years;
  • holders of a diplomatic or service passport and their immediate family members;
  • holders of a Laissez-Passer issued by an African Union (AU) state or the United Nations and their immediate family members.
E-visas issuance is reinstated.


Residents of Ethiopia are allowed to enter with an expired residence permit.

These passengers can obtain a visa on arrival at Addis Ababa (ADD):

  • holders of a valid ID card issued to foreign citizens of Ethiopian origin and children travelling with them;
  • holders of a foreign passport stating Ethiopia as place of birth.
