Latest information on travel bans during COVID-19

Costa Rica

Borders of Costa Rica are open with some exceptions.


Currently there is an airservice with the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Uruguay, USA (only flights arriving from Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia and Washington, D.C.), United Kingdom or Vatican.

The following passengers may enter:

  • citizens and residents of Costa Rica;
  • passengers from visa-waiver countries, travelling as a tourists and considering that they in the last 14 days been only to: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Uruguay, United Kingdom or Vatican;
  • residents of some US states: Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia and Washington, D.C.;
  • family members of passengers who doesn’t need a visa to enter Costa Rica and travelling as a tourists.

There are some requirements for arrving passengers and travelling as a tourists:

  • fill-in online form: “Pase de Salud”.
  • be holders of a medical insurance covering covid-19 treatment costs. Issuing company must be in Costa Rica or be approved by the local authorities.
  • must have medical certificate with negative COVID-19 test result. The certificate must be issued no more than 72 hours before departure. The certificate must be in English or Spanish.

Residents of Costa Rica must be holders of a proof of payment of the Costa Rican Social Security.

Arriving passengers will be quarantined for 14 days.
